Seth Lakeman
In July 2005 Seth Lakeman found himself
short-listed for the Nationwide Mercury Prize, the most
sought-after prize in British music, alongside the likes
of Kaiser Chiefs and Coldplay.
Unlike Coldplay’s album however, ’Kitty Jay’ was recorded
for around £300 in the kitchen of his brother Sean’s Devon
cottage.
The album was released on Seth’s own label, I-Scream.
A fantastic performance at the Mercury Awards ceremony and
two BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations, helped propel ’Kitty
Jay’ into becoming the fastest selling album of its kind in
years.
The Seth Lakeman Trio then completed a mammoth sell-out tour
of the UK and wound up an amazing year by opening for The
Pogues on their annual Christmas show in London.
The impact of this success also found Seth diverse champions
in Billy Bragg, Pete Tong, Jo Whiley, Jools Holland and Ricky
Gervais.
Gally's Folly
Hardly needing any introduction, Mickey Ripley
and Mandy Gallagher are St Ives September Festival
stalwarts.
Booked in the 2005 revival year as the fest’s first ever
resident host band, when they supported: Jez Lowe, Flook and 3
Daft Monkeys at the Guildhall.
Gally’s Folly have established a large following in the town
which has produced their own ‘mini-festivals’ at New Year and
Easter.
A magical blend of raw Celtic folk and their own material
they the best party duo around, and St Ives loves them.
